The game is started at one spot. Then one group of up to 4 people get in a car and they are designated as the cops. The rest of the people have to run/walk/skip/crawl/do whatever it takes to get to the 'safe spot'(this includes getting a ride with another group) without getting seen by the 'cops'

This is a map that is intended to be played with others, preferably several other friends. You are advised to all use some sort of communication program, such as Skype or Teamspeak, in order to play this map correctly. Cops and Robbers 3 revolves around 1 player taking the role of cop, and everyone else taking the roles of robbers.

You must then follow the “honor rules” (rules that aren’t hard-coded into the game, which means anyone can break them, but doing so will ruin the fun of the other players) that are:

  • Do not break any blocks what so ever.
  • The cop must command the robbers, let them go to dinner, take showers, play games and such. He is also required to enforce his will on disobeying robbers.
  • The robbers must obey the cop, do as he says, follow his commands, at least unless they want to be disciplined. But they might have other plans eventually (your ultimate goal is to escape the prison).


The robbers best hope of salvation, a ship docked at a small harbor outside the prison.

The map will recognize when all robbers have escaped, announcing the winners. There are more than one way to escape, see if you can find it (or them?). The setting is the dark and dangerous prison island of Alcatraz, with an extremely well made and detailed map.

It is an incredible cool map, and loads of fun are to be had if you play it with your friends, but even just exploring it on your own is pretty cool. Definitively recommend to anyone who wants a bit of a different Minecraft experience. Do note that you might want to turn clouds off, as the map is placed quite high, and they might glide though the prison or close to the ground outside.

This kind of play mode is known from many games, such as Halo 3 as mentioned, but there are also custom CS maps who has the same concept, and the upcoming Day Z features similar gameplay where people must follow orders to survive if captured by other hostile survivors. Best gambling casino on the strip. That is, if they don’t just put a bullet in your head at first sight.

Ultimately, Cops and Robbers 3 is worth a shot with your friends, just obey the cop (to some extend), follow the honor rules, and try to escape without raising too much suspicion. Also, don’t be a dick and cheat.
